It's an education project, not a laptop project: http://wiki.laptop.org
OLPC is largely a volunteer-run, local-community-driven effort both in the US and in developing nations involving both technologists and non-technologists using open-source tools to collaborate online. How can we deal with language, cultural, and technical-experience backgrounds to drive towards the common goal of helping kids learn? Join us for a lively discussion/brainstorm/workshop on OLPC's grassroots model and how we can learn from the way schools, LUGs, coding projects, co-ops, universities, and pickup games of basketball run. Developers, non-developers, parents, kids, and anyone of any age/background with a love for AC are welcome (adventurous educators with nontechnical backgrounds particularly welcome). We'll explain OLPC a bit at the beginning and give resources for how you can learn more and get involved at the end. |
