Recent Meetings...

Meetings usually take place the 1st and 2nd Thursday of the month. Members should abide by the BLUG code of conduct.
On Thursday Oct 5th at BTC in D bldg 7pm til 9pm
BLUG will host an open to the public Linux install fest.

I have three SuSE Enterprise Desktop 10 and four SuSE Open Linux CD's,
donated by Novell, that will be available.
Adrian will finish his talk on Base and Mark will use the second half of the meeting for Dynamically Generated Open Office Documents. The meeting will be held in D building at Bellingham Tech College from 7pm till 9pm.
The annual summer picnic will be held at Fairhaven Park in the upper shelter on Aug 13 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Bring food, kids, frisbees, tall tales etc. The is uphill from where we normally hold the Christmas party. Look for Tux on the horizon.

We really enjoyed OSCON 2006. O'Reilly gave use a free exhibit booth to promote Linuxfest Northwest. The mix of corporate and community groups felt very egalitarian. I want to complement O'Reilly for being so generous.

Open Office is the leading office suite for Linux. It also runs on Windows, so non-Linux users can get a sense of the value of free and open source software.

The January BLUG meeting is tomorrow, Jan 5 at 7PM at Bellingham Technical College building D.   After our usual news and Q and A session, I will be giving this month's presentation.   It is titled "Have I Been Hacked??".
Michael Titus will give a short presentation on HTTP cache and expiration headers that can be used to improve browser performance and reduce server workloads.
